Why Unlockr is different
Most screen time tools stop at blocking. Unlockr makes you earn the block back, verifies that you actually did, and then spends the time honestly.
Blocking isn't the hard part
Any app can put a screen in front of Instagram. The part that actually changes behaviour is what happens next. A blocker you can dismiss with one tap trains you to dismiss it. Unlockr puts a real cost — a breathing exercise, or a set of squats, push-ups, or a plank — between the impulse and the app, so opening it takes a decision instead of a reflex.
The challenge is verified, not assumed
Movement challenges are counted by Apple's Vision framework running on your iPhone's camera, live. Unlockr isn't checking a timer or trusting a checkbox — it's counting your actual reps, on-device, in real time. If pose detection can't get a clean read, a manual fallback keeps you from getting stuck, but there is no button that just skips the work.
Earned time is spent, not just granted
Most unlock-based tools hand you a flat block — 15 minutes, whether you use them or not, counting down from the moment you unlock. Unlockr's balance only ticks while the app is actually open in front of you. Lock your phone or switch away, and the clock holds. What you earn is closer to a real balance than a timer.
Nothing to reset your way out of
The balance survives a restart, so turning the phone off and back on doesn't quietly refund your time. Screen Time access is enforced at the OS level through Apple's Family Controls framework, not a removable app you can just delete when it's inconvenient.
Built to be seen, not just enforced
A streak, and a weekly breakdown of exactly how much time you earned and where it went, sit right in the app. The goal isn't to make screen time impossible — it's to make it visible enough that you're choosing it on purpose.
Nothing leaves your phone
Camera frames used for rep counting are processed on-device and never written to disk or uploaded anywhere. Apple hands your protected apps to Unlockr as anonymous tokens, not names. There is no advertising SDK and no third-party analytics inside the app — nothing to sell, because there's nothing collected to sell.
